As I get ready to roll with our first new group tonight, I am reminded that we have to keep our eyes on the field. We have a team ready to begin working in the field - they are still going to need a lot of supervision, but they're ready.
We need a way to keep track of what fields God has given us.
We need to keep track of possible persons of peace.
We need to be praying and watching.
The challenge we are facing right now is that we all have been in church so long that we aren't in the field, we are ready to go to it. I think we need to think about potential fields in a couple terms:
First, fields are places we go where the Kingdom of God is not present.
Second - and maybe more important, fields are the circles of influence of people we know who are not involved in or committed to a church - even though they may already be believers.
A person of peace is someone in one of our fields, not involved in church, who approaches us with questions or shows interest in faith.
We have to be praying asking God to send workers into the field.
We have to be looking for fields and people of peace in our fields.
