I just thought of a couple things we need to be careful about as we keep our eyes on the ball related to our strategy:
- We can't be tempted to try to migrate these groups into the life of our church. We have to remember that these groups are made for people who are not happy with traditional church. We definitely want to occasionally invite them for a celebration Sunday at CrossRoads to give them a connection. (If they decide to go to a big church on Sunday morning, we want it to be ours!) We also need to remember that in other countries groups like this have begun to die when they became a regular part of a bigger meeting. If we truly believe this is what God is up to, we have to be careful not to forget and take a wrong turn.
- We have to make evangelism and reproduction part of the plan from the beginning.
No, these are not people who would be excited about inviting people to church on Sunday morning. But, in their minds THIS IS NOT CHURCH. After they are doing the things that churches do, THEN, we will tell them: "By the way, you are a church." No, we are not being sneaky, but these are people who have rejected the idea of what they think church is. Once we teach them what church really is by modeling the example, we can tell them because they won't reject what they have become.
